My big assignment to myself this summer has been to get underway with a draft that could grow into a novel. Right now, I have two candidates for this. Either could be shelved before September—I’ve junked drafts as long as 18,000 words before.
Today one set of characters were here. It’s been a long time for me and I needed the refresher (clearly: must go back!), but using Google Street Views still felt like cheating or using a coloring book in a way that the research for my first published story (the only story I’ve set somewhere I’ve never been) somehow did not.
